FUNERAL LITURGY OUTLINE

PART I:  Please use this outline to indicate your selections, as we desire to have a beautiful liturgy that praises and gives thanks to God for the life of your beloved.  The accompanying booklet contains a list of readings from the Old and New Testaments.  Please pick one from each testament.  If you do not have someone to read the scripture selections, please indicate that the priest is to read them.

Two or three family members or friends (including children) may bring the elements of the Eucharist to the priest.  These are the bread, wine and water which are on a small table in front of the first pew on the left side of the center aisle.  Please list the names.

Eulogy:  Eulogies are no longer permitted at Mass, and exceptions will not be made.  The wake and/or the meal afterward are more appropriate places for the eulogy.

 

Part II:  Scripture readings for a Catholic Funeral Mass

 

These Readings are suggested in the Order of Christian Funerals.  At a funeral, one reading from the Old Testament, and one from the New Testament are proclaimed.  Please select one from each.  The priest usually selects the Gospel, please consult with him on this.

St. Mary will provide a cantor, organist, and choir.  A guest singer may sing one or two songs at the discretion of the Music Director.  It is highly recommended that guest singers be limited to those with extensive professional (paid) experience.
